I recently went to a Robert Lenkiewicz exhibition and was quite interested in his theory about the power of empty chairs in his paintings - how they show presence and absence and the power of silence.
I reckon this photo does that - it shows the silence after the street party in aid of the Royal Wedding. The absence of children as they move onto other things to play with.

Royal Wedding Street Party. I rather like the fact that the street looks quite empty as well as the laid back way my friend Mike is playing the guitar.

Another shot with my brother. He does all sorts of fire related things such as poi and juggling.
This was quite a hard one to edit, with the long exposure you get so much red and orange in the whole frame that I just wasn’t digging so had a little tinker with that.
I’m also not quite sure whether it was the setting, the lens (Canon nifty 50) or the camera (Canon 500D) but in the whole shoot I was struggling with noise problems. I was using a flash at 1.3 sec at f1.8.
We’re going to go out and do some more shots another time and play with different flash set ups and what we can do with the fire and the smoke?
Suggestions?

Lunch time roam: What’s that you got there?
Okay so not executed quite right, she is a bit soft. But I liked the fact that she was absorbed in something and hiding away next to the wall. I’m also new to this street photography thing so I probably rushed the shot. Learning that 1/2 an hour at lunch isn’t always enough to find a keeper.

LUNCH HOUR ROAMING
I want to try and roam with my camera in as many lunch breaks as I can.Today was the first one. I was wondering around taking photos of objects and landscapes, which I am not great at doing. It’s really hard to get any kind of emotion or story out of still life, so I want to practice this.I also don’t have the confidence to approach stangers quite yet.So in this photo whilst pretending to photograph something else, I shot this couple out and about on the waterfront.

About

My name is Laurence Jarrett-Kerr. I design things for money and take photos for fun. I also like getting wet with my surfboard, muddy with my bike and chilling with my wife. At last I have returned to the West Country and live and work in Bristol.

Eye Diamond Eye is the branding that my Grandfathers cattle in Jamaica had. I thought I would continue that branding.
